This workshop presents the ARTIST solution to facilitate the modernization of software assets and business models to make them complaint with the cloud.
This solution has been jointly developed by a group of academic and industrial organizations and it is the result of some years of research in the context of a project called ARTIST[i]. Now we are ready to show you the solution, explain you the potential of its application in real scenarios and explore business opportunities around ARTIST solution.

  • 11:30 - 12:00ARTIST: the motivation and the solution - Clara Pezuela (ATOS), Project Coordinator
  • 12:00 - 12:30 ARTIST demo: a tangible example of migration - Juncal Alonso (Tecnalia) & Bram Pellens (SPIKES)
  • 12:30 - 13:00 Business opportunities around ARTIST - Ilias Spais (ATC), Dissemination Manager
  • 13:00 - 13:30  Questions and open issues
ARTIST aims to guide companies in their transition to “move to the cloud” by offering a methodology and supporting tools, from the moment the migration of non-cloud software assets is just a thought, until it can be provisioned as software-as-a-service (SaaS), taking into account technical, business and organizational aspects.
Through several phases, ARTIST supports in the analysis of the migration to the cloud feasibility and decision, from both technical and business point of views. Then, the original application is analysed and modernised, optimizing those programmatic aspects which are not implemented to be cloud complaint. Finally, once deployed, the equivalence between the original and migrated applications is validated and certified.
For owners and developers of non-cloud software applications, ARTIST may help companies in transforming non-cloud software applications not merely to run on cloud but to take full advantage of cloud features by shifting to a software-as-a-service (SaaS) business model. For cloud providers, ARTIST solution may complement the cloud infrastructure offering with a suite of tools to attract potential customers with non-cloud complaint software. For software integrators, ARTIST may provide business opportunities in supporting third companies in the migration of their applications.
The solution is predominantly open source, and fully supported by the “ARTIST Club”, an organization interested in sponsoring the continuation, maintenance and promotion of the underlying project results, through steering and contributing to the community development of the open source tools. Club membership is open to all and governed by a set of  foundation rules, to be also presented at the event.
