Wolfgang Lengert is, since 2001, the Mission Manager of the ERS and Aeolus, Earth Observation satellites of the European Space Agency. In this role, he ensures an utmost exploitation of data acquired during some 20 years observation of the oceans, land, cryosphere and atmosphere. In 2008, he set up a “Virtual Archive” using Cloud assets to foster science exploitation of the ERS Radar Mission for Geohazards, focusing on Earthquakes and Volcanoes.
Before taking up the mission management responsibilities, he was managing ESA’s Earth Observation processing and archiving facilities. Prior to that, he was in charge of the ESA's Earth Observation computing facility providing the reference systems for the global satellite stations and processing centres.
